Convicted Guelen follower is in critical condition in Ovan-depe prison

The news outlet Turkmen.news reports that a 39 year old Alisher Mukhammetguliev, a former deputy director of special school №2 in the city of Kerki, one of the Guelen followers, sentenced to 23 years in prison on multiple charges, is in critical condition in Ovan-depe prison where he is serving his sentence.

According to the media outlet, Mukhametguliev is complaining about constant acute abdominal pain and needs emergency medical assistance. However, the administration of the penitentiary facility is undertaking no measures in this connection.

A teacher of English Eziz Khudayberdyev and an entrepreneur Akmurat Soyunov died of similar symptoms in the same prison. They had also been arrested on charges of alleged connections with Hizmet movement headed by the Turkish cleric Fethullah Guelen.

There was a wave of mass arrests of residents, who are suspected of supporting Fethullah Guelen by the Turkmen authorities, after a coup had been attempted in Turkey in 2016.
