On 22 May Minister of the Interior Isgender Mulikov gave a progress report on preparations for the rally “Amul-Khazar”.
According to Mulikov, special training courses for the drivers, navigators and technical personnel who will be representing Turkmenistan’s national team have been organized at the Motorsport Centre of the Interior Ministry.
The Interior Minister also reported that following negotiations with the company Africa Eco Race an agreement was signed to effectively host and cover the rally in media outlets as well as the involvement of renowned athletes in the event.
On 12 May competitions to select members of the Turkmen team for the car rally “Amul-Khazar” were held in Turkmenistan.
It should be emphasized that on that day President Berdymukhammedov took part in the contest and won the race outperforming the professional racer from the Interior Ministry Motorsport Centre.
Two days later Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov received an award for “outstanding accomplishments in car racing, in various sports contests as well as the great contribution to the development of Turkmen sports in general” and was awarded with a certificate which entitles him to participate in the rally.
