In the meantime, state-run and pro-governmental media outlets of Turkmenistan continue to ignore the hurricane which hit the city of Turkmenabad on 27 April, 2020.

According to independent media outlets, as a result of the disaster 30 to 300 people have died and hundreds of houses have been destroyed. The local administration is rendering no financial assistance to those affected whereas prices for groceries and construction materials have increased two or threefold.
