Turkmenistan, UN co-op in counter-terrorism activities

The delegation of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry during a meeting with UN officials in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, discussed the development of cooperation in order to counter the modern threats and challenges, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The talks were held with Vladimir Voronkov, under-secretary-general of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office and Chen Weixiong, director of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, the report said.

The sides discussed issues of cooperation of Turkmenistan with these anti-terrorism structures. The meeting was held on the sidelines during the International High-Level Conference on International and Regional Cooperation to Combat Terrorism and its Sources of Financing, including Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime.

The event, which was attended by more than 50 countries, was organized by the government of Tajikistan together with the UN, EU, OSCE and other international organizations.

The participants discussed issues such as helping to strengthen international and regional interaction, identifying effective methods to combat the financing of terrorism, sharing experience and knowledge in this area, including prompt response to the changing forms of financing used by terrorist and extremist groups.
