There are plans to hold the sixth Annual Bilateral Consultations between Turkmenistan and the US in Washington, D.C., in autumn 2019, Trend reports with reference to the US Embassy in Ashgabat.
The Annual Bilateral Consultations are a regular mechanism to discuss the full range of issues in the US Turkmenistan relationship and to strengthen collaboration between the two nations.
It is noted that Mark Moody, director of the Office of Central Asian Affairs of the US Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, has recently held meetings with Turkmenistan officials to assess progress by both parties on identified issues of mutual interest.
The delegation discussed cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, including social, educational, and cultural cooperation, as well as human rights issues. The two sides also discussed regional issues, including the C5+1 dialogue framework and their mutual interests in Afghanistan.
“Turkmenistan and the US have made good progress since our last Annual Bilateral Consultations in October, and we would like to see that progress continue up to the next consultations,” Moody said.
The diplomatic relations of the two countries were established on Feb. 19, 1992. The legal base consists of 59 documents, 53 of which are interstate and intergovernmental, and 6 are interdepartmental ones.
Turkmenistan cooperates with the US in the oil and gas, as well as chemical industries, computer technology, agriculture, transport, logistics and energy sphere. Such companies as Boeing, General Electric, John Deere, Microsoft, Caterpillar, Coca-Cola and others are represented in the Turkmen market.
In 2008, the US-Turkmenistan Business Council was formed.
