Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to scale up cross-border trade in the Alat-Farab area. The agreement was finalized during expanded-format talks between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Monday in Tashkent.
According to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, both sides highlighted the potential to increase trade from $1 billion to $2 billion by expanding the range of goods and making full use of the free trade regime.
The leaders also stressed the importance of involving businesses in launching new industrial projects, including the production of construction materials, pharmaceuticals, food products, and other high-demand goods.
To ensure timely implementation of the agreements, additional meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council are scheduled before the end of the year.
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also agreed to resume direct flights between Ashgabat and Tashkent.
