Two instructors of a training school for border troops dismissed for criticizing training reforms

Two instructors of the training school for noncommissioned officers of border forces have been dismissed, demoted and deployed to provincial border crossing checkpoints for criticizing reforms in the training of border guards.

According to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, they disagreed with the changes made in the Regulations for Personnel Training and submitted their written arguments to Turkmenistan’s Directorate of Frontier Forces.

The new changes limit the opportunity for graduates of the training school to be promoted to the rank of captain. Previously they were able to be promoted to the rank of major and then to be enrolled in a six-month course in the NSM Academy and the State Border Service and become senior officers.

The school is located in Bagir. It admits trainees who have completed military service (this course of study lasts 12 months) or enroll during extended voluntarily enlistment (a course of study is six months).

Following this, when doing service and taking into account professional growth as well as short-term training courses, there were prospects of getting promoted to the rank of major.

The dismissed instructors tried to communicate their point of view to the administration and explained that graduates of the school had been more valued in the armed forces than graduates of the Border Institute.

In the past young people would get enrolled and graduate from the Institute primarily through connection and had a negligent attitude to studies.

However, in the special school the majority of graduates, who had no patronage, realized that good academic performance, including technical, tactical and physical training, was the only opportunity for career growth. Additionally, they had a responsibly attitude to their professional responsibilities in the armed forces.

However, the instructors who had challenged this reform were dismissed. One of them is currently serving in the border unit in Dashoguz, the other is in Garrygala.

In recent years, at sessions of the Security Council, former President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov had reiterated his concern over the qualifications of law enforcement officers, in particular the border troops and demanded that “the personnel potential” be strengthened. The post Two instructors of a training school for border troops dismissed for criticizing training reforms first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
