Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan agree on transit of electric power and participation of “Uzbekneftegas” in oil extraction in the Caspian Sea

On May 20 the negotiations between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev were held in the recreation zone “Avaza”.

As a result of the meeting a package of documents was signed. In particular, the Memorandum of Understanding between “Uzbekenergo” and Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Energy on transit and transmission of electric power was signed last Saturday.

According to the media outlet Gazeta.uz, a memorandum envisages facilitating cooperation energy transit from Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan through energy system of Uzbekistan.

It also envisages power supplies in repayment of debt of the state-owned “Turkmenenergo” to “Uzbekenergo” at the mutually agreed price.

The President of Turkmenistan stated at the press conference devoted to the results of the talks that “Uzbekneftegas” will be involved in oil extraction in the Caspian Sea.

According to the Turkmen state information agency TDH, the following documents were signed:

• Memorandum of Understanding on transit and transmission of electric power between Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Energy and “Uzbekenergo” Joint-Stock Company;

• Cooperation agreement on environment protection and sustainable development between Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Environment Protection and Land Resources and Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection;

• Cooperation protocol between Turkmenistan’s State Sports Committee and Uzbekistan’s State Committee on Physical Culture and Sport, as well as organizing the participation of Uzbek athletes in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games;

• Memorandum of Cooperation between “Turkmenhovayollary” Service and National airlines “Uzbekiston hawo ýullari”;

• Memorandum of Understanding between the State Concern “Turkmennebit” and the National Holding Company “Uzbeknefitgaz”.
