Uzbekistan proposes to increase the term of office of the president

Amendments to the constitution of Uzbekistan provide for the extension of the presidential term from five to seven years. The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in the first reading approved the corresponding draft constitutional amendments. The document will be submitted for public discussion on July 5.

As reports rbc.ru, the draft provides for the introduction of norms based on the implementation of the principle in the name of the honor and dignity of a person, including in Article 13 of the Constitution that all irreconcilable contradictions and ambiguities in a person’s relations with state bodies should be interpreted in favor of a person.

It is noted that in total the project proposes to introduce more than 170 amendments to 66 articles of the country's Constitution.
