The sources of Chronicles of Turkmenistan report that the building of the Turkish shopping centre Yimpaş, which was closed in December 2016, has been handed over to the Institute of PE and Sports.
The administration of the Institute does not yet know what to do with the building. There are no funds available for the renovation of the building let alone its remodeling. It is quite likely that the shopping premises will be leased out.
However, in this case, according to our sources, it is not clear if the rental revenue will go to the coffers of the educational establishment. It is likely that this is the disguised form of “voluntary transfer” of the business to individuals close to the Turkmen authorities.
The shopping centre owned by the Turkish company Yimpaş Holding was very popular with Ashgabat residents. At the end of last year the Turkish entrepreneurs were forced to yield to pressure exerted by the municipal authorities and close down the supermarket.
At that time there were speculations that the building would be demolished and the car park would be built on its place or the building would be handed over to the local businessmen.
