A conscript beaten by “seniors” dies in the Central Hospital

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that on 14 June, 2020 a conscript who was drafted into the army in November 2019, died in the Central Hospital of the Border Security Forces and the NSM.

A young man from Bairamali was the only son of his mother. He was doing a military service in the border guard detachment in Garry-gala.

It was during his three-month stay in the training unit when he and other recruits were subjected to beating and humiliation by their commanding officers.Upon arrival to the border guard detachment they were beaten by senior conscripts.

The soldier had repeatedly contacted the medical facility to complain about acute paid in the right side of the abdomen. He was placed in the medical unit for two or three days to be administered painkillers and was again released to the duty station.

In early June his condition exacerbated and he was admitted to the Central Hospital of the Border Security Forces and the NSM in Ashgabat where he died 13 days later.

The investigation to look into the conscript’s death has not been initiated. Nobody was held liable.

It should be emphasized that in late 2019 a recruit who had just served a month in the military died in Mary as a result of beating by “senior conscripts”.

In early September 2019 four conscripts doing military service died in the military unit located in the village of Shagal, Lebap velayat. It is most likely that their death was caused by hazing in the army.
