After re-opening of two checkpoints Turkmen students return home from Uzbekistan

On 26 November, 2021 the two checkpoints “Khodjeyli -Kunya-Urgench” and “Shavat-Dashoguz” on the Turkmen-Uzbek border were re-opened.

It transpired that the checkpoints were re-opened to allow passage not only to vehicles but to Turkmen students who managed to return to their home country thanks to re-opening of the borders, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report.

To be able to return a student is requested to present a graduation certificate from a higher educational establishment and a document confirming the absence of outstanding debts to the University to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan.

The Embassy makes groups of at least 20 individuals who have submitted the aforementioned documents and schedules the date of their repatriation to the home country.A day prior to the departure a COVID-19 test needs to be taken in a state-run medical institution of Uzbekistan.

The organized group crosses the border according to the Embassy’s list.

After the border crossing students need to be tested for COVID by Turkmen healthcare practitioners. In case of a negative test, graduates are sent home. The police ask family members not to come to the border checkpoint to avoid crowds.

The students who have been unable to complete their education for financial or other reasons will be the last to be repatriated.

It is also reported that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ashgabat has started issuing visas to Turkmen nationals for 10 days if they have a legitimate reason for a visit (visiting family members or medical treatment). The post After re-opening of two checkpoints Turkmen students return home from Uzbekistan first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
