Berdymukhammedov severely reprimands the Interior Minister and Chairperson of the Customs Office

On 21 September, 2020 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov issued a severe reprimand with the final warning to remedy the shortcomings within the shortest possible time to the Minister of the Interior Mammetkhan Chakyev for “work-related shortcomings”.

A severe reprimand for “improper execution of job-related responsibilities and shortcomings at work” was reprimanded to Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Customs Office Maksat Khudaikuliev.

This is the first reprimand of Chakyev, who was appointed the Interior Ministry in October 2019.

“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously reported that on 17 September, 2020 there was exchange of gunfire between members of members of the NSM office, public prosecutor’s office, police and the border guard office of Lebap velayat and drug smugglers.

It is unclear whether this incident has caused the reprimand.

On 21 September, 2020 negotiations between the Interior Ministers of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were held.
