On 5 July the Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Economic Crime Enforcement Agency Maksat Khudaikuliev briefed President Berdymukhammedov on several cases of corruption and embezzlement in the state holding “Turkmenkhimiya” and some other public sector organizations.
According to Khudaikuliev, on a regular basis the Deputy Chairperson of the state holding “Turkmenkhimiya” D. Ashyrmammedov received bribes from executives of foreign companies with which contracts had been concluded to export carbamide.
Saparov, CEO of Khazar chemical plant under the state holding “Turkmenkhimiya”, was engaged in the misappropriation of state property and caused considerable financial damage to the state.
The head of Ashgabat public utilities, repair and construction department, S. Niyazov, illegally misappropriated various construction materials for his personal use. To cover up the wrongdoings he falsified documents proving the availability of assets he had illegally sold.
CEO of OAO “Marysheker” under Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Water Economy, Ch. Atayev, illegally sold sugar and sugar products stored at warehouses. The money he received was used for his personal needs. To cover up the wrongdoings he made up fake documents proving the purchase of goods at sugar beet reception points.
The head of Capital Projects department of Lebap velayat khyakimlik’s office, Y. Orunov, received bribes from executives of private companies which carried out construction works on the territory of the velayat. He created artificial constraints when making reciprocal payments and approved bank transfer receipts without drawing up a full completion certificate.
Commenting on the report, President Berdymukahmmedov said that executives have been repeatedly warned that bribery and corruption will be severely tackled.
Nobody is allowed to embezzle public funds and line their pockets at the expense of illegally misappropriated funds!, — the head of state declared.
