Prosecutors general of five Caspian littoral states Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia signed a declaration on cooperation on the protection of the Caspian Sea, Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation said in its Wednesday statement.
The document was signed at a meeting of prosecutors general of the states of the Caspian region on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, held at the invitation of the Russian side.
The meeting was attended by the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev, Ambassador of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali, Prosecutor General of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Gizat Nurdauletov and Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan Batyr Atdayev.
Upon the outcomes of the meeting, a prosecutors general of the Caspian littoral states signed a declaration on cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the use of natural resources of the Caspian Sea.
“This meeting and signing of the document will lay the foundation for further interaction in the Caspian topic in a five-sided format. I am sure that it will be rich and productive,” Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov said.
The Russian Prosecutor General suggested holding meetings at the expert level in early 2022 in order to discuss in more detail the issues of cooperation in the field of protecting the ecology of the Caspian Sea, according to the statement. His foreign colleagues unanimously supported the proposal.
