Chicken meat, which is now in short supply, appears on 1 March in Tekin bazaar of Ashgabat

On March 1, 2020 chicken meat, which is now in short supply, appeared on the counters of Tekin bazaar in Turkmenistan.

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that chicken meat, however, was sold not from the state-run store, but from the stall.

Despite the price of 17 manats a kilo indicated on the price tag, the shop assistant demanded that customers pay 22 manats. He justified the price by the fact that there are no other retail outlets in the market selling chicken and pointed at the nearby state-run grocery store.

After numerous customers started complaining, the chicken was sold at 17 manats per kilo.

Let us recall that a kilo of chicken had previously cost 13 manats. In late February Ashgabat stores experienced irregular supply of chicken meat, which is in short supply even in privately-owned stores.
