Environmental activists disrupted work at Frankfurt Airport

The activities of Frankfurt Airport were temporarily interrupted due to the action of participants in the environmental movement “Last Generation”. Activists entered the airport and glued themselves to the runway, reports snob.ru with reference to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Protesters released a statement on social media saying: “The continued extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal poses a threat to our existence. We have joined forces internationally. Get rid of fossils by 2030.”

According to available information, six activists overcame the fence and positioned themselves around the runway with signs reading “Oil Kills.”

To ensure security, airport operations were suspended during the police operation. Of the approximately 1 400 flights scheduled for July 25, 140 were cancelled. Passengers were warned of possible delays throughout the day.

Frankfurt Airport is one of the largest in Germany, handling approximately 60 million passengers last year.
