Female employee of “Turkmenneftegaz” who has been waiting for accommodation for 13 years is forced to retire

Gulsenem Taganova, a gardener from the closed joint stock company “Khyzmat”, which is comprised into “Turkmenneft” holding, has been urged to retire without being provided with accommodation she is entitled to by law.

For 13 years Taganova was on the waiting list to obtain accommodation in the organization she was employed by.The woman saw that many of her co-workers who had been included in the waiting list later were provided with apartments in newly-built apartment blocks and therefore, she contacted the executives of her organization and the Ministry.

Each time she was promised that she would be the next on the list to be provided with accommodation.

Taganova also contacted the Executive Office of the Turkmen President. She failed to receive any response and in April 2018 and August 2018 she recorded the videos to address the President of Turkmenistan through “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.

After the second video address, Taganova was forcibly transferred to the public utilities department of Ashgabat khyakimlik’s office as a landscaper, where she was informed that the organization did not provide accommodation to their employees.

After attempts to find out about the waiting list through lawyers, Gulsenem Taganova was asked to retire because of her age. She is still forced to stay with her daughter’s family and share the room with five people.

The TIHR will be shortly preparing reports on women’s rights and for the UN Universal Periodic Review where Taganova’s case will be included. It will also be used during working meetings with representatives of international and interstate agencies.
