GDP of Turkmenistan Surges 3.7 Times in 15 Years

During the last 15 years, Turkmenistan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased by 3.7 times, as stated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a session of the Halk Maslahaty Presidium held on Thursday at the "Türkmenistanyň Maslahatlar merkezi" building in Ashgabat.

As reported by the official media of Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized that in the past year, the volume of industrial production increased by more than 3 times compared to previous years.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added that in 2008, the retail turnover amounted to 16 million manats, and in 2023, this figure increased by 8.5 times, reaching 140 million manats.

The National Leader highlighted that in December 2022, a nationwide census of the population and housing stock was conducted in Turkmenistan, resulting in a population exceeding 7 million. This demonstrates a population growth of nearly 2 million compared to 2008.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that it is time to improve the legal framework regulating relations related to minors, in the context of protecting and supporting the growing youth.

The main purpose of the presidium session was associated with the priority tasks for the successful implementation of the "Program of Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan and Investments in 2024."

The Presidium of the Halk Maslahaty also discussed the plan for upcoming activities and events to implement this program in the main directions of the Halk Maslahaty's activities in Turkmenistan.
