Hollywood screenwriters may go on strike

Hollywood screenwriters may go on strike

In Hollywood, they expect the most massive strike of screenwriters in the last 15 years, writes RIA Novosti with reference to Bloomberg.

The contract between the Writers Guild of America and Hollywood studios expires on May 1. Prior to this date, the Guild and representatives of the Hollywood studios from time to time began negotiations, but never could bring them to the end.

Writers are ready to go on strike because of what they see as low wages, high copyright competition and difficult working conditions with streaming services, most notably Netflix.Pay for work suffers because streaming services order fewer episodes per season, usually no more than ten.

At the same time, despite the increase in the filming budget, the salary of scriptwriters does not increase.

If the writers' strike drags on, film companies won't have time to get new films ready for the fall.
