Security measures tightened in Ashgabat in the run-up to the public holiday. Foreign nationals moved into hotels

Greetings devoted to the 25th anniversary of the declaration of state neutrality of Turkmenistan will be extended to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov online. Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that outdoor large-scale events are not scheduled to be held.

Events will be held in conference halls of state-run organizations and higher educational institutions where participants will be congratulating the head of state via video conference.

Meanwhile, since the start of the week the security measures have been tightened in Ashgabat. Additional police patrols and the NSM officers have been mobilized from the provinces.

Residents from other provinces, including inhabitants of Akhal velayat, are detained in the capital and sent to the place of their permanent residence registration. They have been informed by law enforcement officers that the measure is temporary and that they will be allowed to return after holidays.

Foreign nationals have been obliged to stay in offices, the facilities owned by their employers or in hotels. Exceptions apply only for employees of diplomatic missions. Diplomats have been discouraged from participating in events, having gathering and meeting locals.

They are only permitted to get to get to their place of work or to retail outlets to purchase essential groceries and merchandise. The NSM is keeping vigil to make sure this requirement is observed.

Only employees of foreign diplomatic missions are allowed to rent property in the capital. A property owner concludes a contract with them at least for 12 months, which can be extended.

Let us recall that two days ago “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that in Ashgabat foreign nationals were being moved from the rental apartments into hotels. According to the latest reports, they will be barred from returning to their pervious apartments after the holidays.
