The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan outlined the priorities of cooperation with the UN

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the heads of United Nations agencies in the country and regional UN structures, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The negotiations discussed the national priorities of Turkmenistan for the new cycle of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030 and global prospects for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the video conference, the parties focused on a wide range of issues of active interaction between Turkmenistan and the UN. Meredov emphasized that cooperation with the Organization is a priority vector of the country’s foreign policy. Key areas of partnership were outlined, including strengthening peace and security, implementing the SDGs, developing sustainable transport, and combating climate change.

The meeting participants discussed the prospects for cooperation with UN agencies in the areas of sustainable development, transport, climate change, environmental protection, human rights, preservation of cultural heritage, education and healthcare. The role of UNGA resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan was noted.

The heads of UN departments informed about joint work with the Government of Turkmenistan and made proposals for its intensification. The schedule of upcoming meetings and events has been reviewed.
