The Parliament of Turkmenistan is working on a Memorandum on Foreign Trade

Deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, representatives of the country's relevant ministries, consultants from the Asian Development Bank and employees of the World Trade Organization (WTO) held a joint meeting on the development of a Memorandum on Foreign Trade of Turkmenistan, reports Arzuw news.

The meeting was the next step towards the country’s accession to the WTO, which corresponds to the Foreign Trade Strategy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2030 and the National Program for Socio-Economic Development for 2022-2052.

In 2020, Turkmenistan was granted observer status in the WTO, and in 2022 - active observer status. In 2023, the composition of the Working Commission for the development of the Memorandum on Foreign Trade of Turkmenistan was approved. The country is hosting events aimed at accession to the WTO, including national seminars, WTO accession sessions, distance lectures, courses and conferences.

The International Trade Center in Ashgabat organized an online training “Legal aspects of the WTO and the accession process”, which helped to raise awareness and prepare for the negotiation process on Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
