Turkey Says Turkmenistan Summit Important For Creating Energy Corridor

The Turkey-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan trilateral summit to be held in mid-December in Turkmenistan will play an important role in creating a corridor for energy supplies to Europe from Central Asia, Anadolu Agency reported, citing the Press-Secretary of the President of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin as saying on Wednesday.

He said the importance of the Turkic world and Central Asia in the light of the energy and food crises will only grow as significant amounts of the world's energy resources are in Turkic world.

According to him, thanks to the initiatives of Turkic Leaders the energy infrastructure has been largely formed over the past 10-15 years.

"In particular, the TANAP pipeline, will play an important and decisive role not only in transporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe, but also in delivering energy resources of Turkmenistan and, possibly, Kazakhstan to world markets in the future," Kalin stated, adding that the trilateral summit in Turkmenistan is one of the critical stages of this process.

The summit is scheduled for December 14 at the Avaza National Tourist Zone. It will be preceded by negotiations of foreign, transport and energy ministers of the three countries.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously said he will discuss at the summit the creation of a gas hub for natural gas supplies to Europe on the territory of Turkey.
