Turkmen Ambassador to Belgium Discusses Development of Turkmenistan-EU Trade Ties

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov and Leon Delvaux, the Director Neighbouring Countries at the Directorate-General for trade of the European Commission, in a meeting in Brussels discussed the development of trade ties between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

Sapar Palvanov reiterated the readiness of Turkmenistan to further develop bilateral trade-economic cooperation with the EU and jointly work on new opportunities. The Turkmen envoy stated the sides have potential to further boost trade ties.

Leon Delvaux agreed with the envoy’s statements and confirmed the interest of European companies to enter the Turkmen market and establish business cooperation.

During the meeting, the EC official said he supports Turkmenistan's initiatives to protect the environment and reduce methane emissions, and that Europe has great experience in these areas.He expressed the EU's interest in cooperation with Turkmenistan in these areas.

The Ambassador, in turn, said the Turkmen side is also conducting a number of activities in these areas and taking appropriate measures.

Leon Delvaux stated that the EU has opportunities to cooperate with Turkmenistan in the fields of trade-economy, agriculture, energy, and green energy.

The parties also agreed to take a systematic approach to trade-economic cooperation, to create conditions for frequent holding of business forums and round tables that bring together Turkmen and EU businesses. Leon Delvaux proposed to hold such business events in Brussels in the near future.

At the end of the meeting, the Turkmen Ambassador said the EU is a reliable partner of Turkmenistan in trade-economic relations.
