Turkmenistan celebrated the Turkmen Carpet Day on a grand scale, traditionally marking it with a number of solemn events on May 29, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The main celebrations were held in the Turkmen capital, where the XXII meeting of the World Association of Connoisseurs of the Turkmen Carpet “Heavenly Beauty - Turkmen Carpet”, the Exhibition of the Trade Complex of Turkmenistan and the ceremony of awarding craftswomen who create elegant carpets - works of art were held.
Esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a welcoming Address to the participants of these events, emphasizing the importance of the Turkmen carpet in the history and culture of the Turkmen people.
The extensive exposition, located in the Expocenter of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the tremendous success achieved in the development of the carpet and textile industries, the shopping complex as a whole, the steps taken in recent years to strengthen their production potential, modernize the existing infrastructure through the introduction of advanced technologies and innovative developments.
During the XXII meeting of the World Association of Connoisseurs of the Turkmen Carpet, held in the second half of the day in the conference hall of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reports were made on the history, present day and prospects for the development of the Turkmen art of carpet weaving.
Heads and leading specialists of major world museums, scientists, art historians, businessmen-connoisseurs of this applied art from various countries spoke via video link.

The masters of carpet weaving expressed their deep gratitude to the respected President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the special attention to the development of the carpet industry, the creation of all conditions for work and harmonious creativity, and for the education of a worthy replacement of talented workers, to whom they pass on the secrets of the ancient, but eternally young art.
A festive gift for industry workers, and for numerous Ashgabat residents and guests of the capital, was a big concert of masters of art, organized by the State Association “Türkmenhaly” and the Ministry of Culture in the capital's song and music center “Ashgabat”.
Events in honor of the Turkmen carpet provided a wonderful opportunity to popularize the national heritage, familiarize the general public with the achievements of our country, and to build bridges of cooperation with potential foreign partners.
Meetings, exhibitions, scientific conferences, creative competitions, concerts and other events were held throughout the country in honor of the Turkmen Carpet Festival.
