Turkmen President Extends Condolences to Xi Jinping

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov extended condolences to President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping over a gas explosion at a coal mine in China’s Shanxi Province that caused numerous casualties and injuries, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Saturday.

On behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan, as well as personally, the head of state expressed sincere condolences and support to the families and relatives of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

A total of 82 people were killed and two others remain missing following the gas explosion at the coal mine on May 22, Shanxi Governor Chen Xiangyang said at a press conference, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.

The explosion occurred at 7:29 p.m. local time Friday at a coal mine in China’s Shanxi Province.
