Turkmenistan and Russia signed an agreement on the establishment of an inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation

The agreement on the establishment of an inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation was signed today in Moscow by the heads of the upper chambers of Turkmenistan and Russia Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Valentina Matvienko, the Russian mass media reports.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, is in Moscow on an official visit at the invitation of the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

The parliamentarians intend to gather not rare than once in a year.

The Head of the Federation Council expressed confidence that the signed document will signify a new stage in the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, will allow it to be properly institutionalized and will open up new prospects for cooperation between legislators of the two countries.

The Chairman of the Federation Council instructed to start forming the national parts of the commission, to think about the date of the first meeting, during which the regulations will be approved and an annual work plan will be drawn up. Valentina Matvienko proposed to hold the first meeting in Moscow and Astrakhan.

In his turn, the Head of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh noted that the Parliamentary interaction brings an important impact in the consistent development of strategic partnership of two countries, in strengthening of friendship and understating between countries and peoples, united by deep historical, cultural, humanitarian ties.

The head of the Halk Maslahaty of the Turkmen parliament has a busy program in Moscow. Tomorrow Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will make a report at the 532nd meeting of the Federation Council, hold a round table with the participation of Russian senators. He also has a number of negotiations planned.
