The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the delegation of Afghanistan, which was in Ashgabat from March 4 to 6, headed by acting. Minister of Industry and Trade Alhaj Nuriddin Azizi, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The negotiations touched upon the issue of regional cooperation in the water sector.In particular, the Turkmen side drew the attention of the Afghan delegation to three important issues: the need for a scientifically based and verified approach to water abstraction from transboundary rivers, first of all, taking into account the real needs for the use of water resources; providing hydraulic structures under construction on transboundary rivers with highly qualified personnel capable of ensuring the proper operation of such facilities; unconditional respect for the interests of all states located along transboundary rivers, on the basis of international law and through the creation of appropriate mechanisms for managing water resources based on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, equality and transparency.
Let us remind that the delegation of Afghanistan was in Turkmenistan to participate in the exhibition of Afghan goods and the Turkmen-Afghan business forum, which were successfully held in Ashgabat and contributed to the strengthening of trade and economic relations between the countries.
