Turkmenistan celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the EU and Belgium with an exhibition of cultural heritage

On August 31, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Brussels presented the exposition “Cultural Treasures of Turkmenistan”, dedicated to the rich culture and history of the country. The exhibition was organized jointly with the “Diplomatic World” Institute and timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan, the European Union and Belgium, as well as the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan, reports the press service of the Embassy of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by representatives of EU institutions, including the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala. Members of the European Parliament, the diplomatic corps of Brussels and heads of various European institutions also joined the event, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange between Turkmenistan and Europe.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was the presentation of ancient Turkmen jewelry from the collection of the Belgian historian, professor at the Free University of Brussels Dr. Jan de Maere. These items, purchased directly from Turkmenistan in the 1970s, are testament to the rich history and culture of the country.

The exhibition also featured vibrant Turkmen carpets, traditional musical instruments such as the dutar, gyjak and deprek, and a variety of national costumes that tell stories of the nation's past.

The atmosphere of the exhibition was complemented by the magnificent national cuisine of Turkmenistan. The guests enjoyed a variety of dishes, among which Turkmen pilaf, samsa and pishme stood out.

What drew particular attention, however, was a touching reading of the poem by Belgian high school student Justin Lazer. He chose a poem by the revered Turkmen poet-philosopher Magtymguly called “Imagine”. The depth of the poem, combined with Justin's sincere explanation of his choice, deeply touched the audience.

The exhibition “Cultural Treasures of Turkmenistan” has become a bridge connecting cultures, stories and people. It was a reminder of the beauty and significance of the historical and cultural heritage of Turkmenistan.
