Turkmenistan Commissions Mudflow Diversion Structures in Southern Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Wednesday took part in the ceremony of commissioning a complex of mudflow diversion structures in the southern part of the capital city Ashgabat, the country’s official media reports.

The Head of Turkmenistan stressed that the complex of mudflow diversion structures will play an important role in maintaining the well-being of Ashgabat, expressing confidence that the complex, unique in terms of architectural concept, would effectively serve the people of the country for many years.

The construction of the structures was carried out in accordance with the Presidential Decree, adopted in March 2020, authorizing the signing of the agreement with the Russia-based Vozrozhdenie company.

The total length of the complex is 49 kilometers.It includes open reservoirs, bridges, pumping stations, more than 34 kilometers of concrete channels, over 8 kilometers of pipelines and other engineering systems.

The complex will direct the mudflow and precipitation waters beyond Ashgabat to the existing water drainage canals and further to the Turkmen lake Altyn Asyr.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Igor Bukato, the head of the Russian group of design and construction companies Vozrozhdeniye, said “this project was carried out by the joint efforts of the Russian and Turkmen design institutes Sevkavgiprovodkhoz and Türkmensuwylymtaslama, as well as specialists from the Scientific Research Institute of Earthquake Construction of Turkmenistan.”

The solemn event also featured the presentation of a certificate on the implementation of a unique construction project the complex of mudflow diversion structures from the organization Selevaya Assosiyasiya (Mudflow Association), certificates of environmental safety of the complex from the All-Russian Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Land Reclamation named after A.N.

Kostyakov, and an ISO 9001-2015 certificate of the International Organization for Standardization.
