National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed establishing a Turkmen-Afghan commission on economic cooperation, Turkmen state media reported Monday.
Speaking about joint projects and stressing the importance of strengthening the legal framework for cooperation to advance them, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed establishing the commission. He reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider proposals from the Afghan side and said the country supports further development of mutually beneficial partnership.
Afghanistan’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar said stronger contacts between the business communities of the two countries, along with regular joint exhibitions and business forums, would help boost trade and economic cooperation. He again expressed appreciation to Turkmenistan for its productive cooperation and goodwill.
The talks also covered cooperation in various areas, including the fuel and energy sector, particularly the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line, as well as transport and electricity infrastructure.
