Turkmenistan ratifies ILO convention

Geneva hosted the ceremony of handing the ratification document to Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder on the accession of Turkmenistan to the Convention concerning Tripartite Consultations to Promote the Implementation of International Labor Standards, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Turkmenistan has become the 149th country to ratify this Convention No. 144. Ryder welcomed the efforts of the parties to prepare a Program of Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO for 2019-2021.

The partnership between Turkmenistan and the ILO resulted in the adoption of the law of Turkmenistan “On the tripartite commission for the regulation of social and labor relations” in October 2018

Ratification by the Turkmen parliament of the Convention No. 144 concerning Tripartite Consultations to Promote the Implementation of International Labor Standards was noted as an obvious result of cooperation with social partners, the report said.

Turkmenistan has been a member of ILO since 1994 and has been working to implement international obligations under ratified and non-ratified ILO conventions through the development of national legislation.

A program of improving the employment system and the creation of new jobs for 2015-2020 is being implemented in Turkmenistan.

The plan, in particular, provides for a further improvement of the employment legislation in accordance with the requirements of international law, development of measures for the introduction of the legal employment of persons with disabilities, promoting economic activity increase of the country's youth, organization of courses to improve the skills of workers and retraining of the working staff, and well as preparation of proposals for the creation of new industries, activities and jobs.
