Turkmenistan Rescues Crew of Iranian Cargo Vessel in Caspian Sea

Coastal services of Turkmenistan received an SOS signal on Jan. 14, 2026, from the Iranian cargo vessel Rona, which was in distress in the Caspian Sea, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

State agencies responsible for maritime emergency prevention and response were promptly mobilized. Rescue operations were conducted in line with international maritime norms and regulations.

All 14 crew members were rescued as a result of coordinated and timely actions. Preliminary information indicates that the crew included citizens of Iran and India.

The Turkmen side is currently carrying out the necessary procedures required under international maritime law, the Foreign Ministry said.
