Foreign tade turnover of Turkmenistan in 2021 amounted to $15.1 billion, an increase of 20.5% compared to 2020, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Deputy Chairman of Government in charge of economic and financial issues, announced in his briefing during the extraordinary meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) chamber of the country's bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh (National Council), hosted by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday.
According to his report, Turkmenistan’s GDP increased 6.2% last year. During the period, the country’s industry sector saw an increase of 92.%, construction sector 0.3%, transport-communications sector 4.3%, trade 8.8%, agriculture 3.8%, services sector 5.8%.
The retail trade turnover of the country last year amounted to 114.2 billion manats, a 16.6% increase compared to 2020.
In 2021, inter-sectoral debts decreased 5.5% compared to 2020 to 4 billion manats, while the inter-sectoral debts decreased 2.9% to 7.5 billion manats.
The volume of utilized investments from all sources of financing amounted to 31.7 billion manats last year.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also presented the draft program for the socio-economic development of the country for 2022.
Following the report, President Berdimuhamedov stressed the need to increase the GDP to at least 6%, increase state revenues and carry out activities to develop a market economy.
The Head of State then addressed a number of instructions to the Vice-Premier and approved the program for the socio-economic development of the country for 2022.
The meeting was attended by members of the government, deputies, heads of ministries and departments, political parties and public organizations, governors and mayors, as well as members of Halk Maslahaty.
The meeting included reports by government officials on the results of their work in 2021.
