Turkmenistan to Compete in Group E of FIFA 26 WCQ

Turkmenistan has entered Group E in the FIFA 26 World Cup qualifiers, FIFA's press service said on Thursday.

Turkmenistan will compete against Iran, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong or Bhutan in the group.

After the draws for the first and second rounds, the initial paths for the 46 countries of the Asian-Oceanic Football Confederation (AFC) have been decided.

Qualification will begin for 20 countries in October 2023, with the 10 first-round winners advancing to the second round starting in mid-November 2023.

The draw for the remaining three rounds will take place the following year. The top two teams from each of the nine groups will advance to the third round of World Cup selection, which will take place in late 2024.

The 2026 World Cup will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, with qualification taking place in November 2025 and March 2026 (32 days).

The 2022 FIFA World Cup was held in Qatar and culminated in Argentina's victory against France.
