Turkmenistan to revise anticorruption law

At the joint session of the government and the State Security Council Turkmenistan’s Defense Minister Yalym Berdiev reported that Turkmenistan is working on the draft version of the revised law “On fighting corruption”.

“The anticorruption law, which will be considerably amended and supplemented, will define legal and organization framework to carry out fight against corruption with a view of preventing, identifying and solving crimes as well as holding accountable those who committed the offence”, the state information agency TDH reports.

With a view to “combatting bribery and corruption”, at the May 12 session of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov authorized the State Security Council jointly with the Mejlis to design an anti-corruption program within the shortest possible timeframe and present it for approval.

This announcement followed the large-scale cleansing in the government and Public prosecutor’s office, which resulted in the dismissal of 50 officials.
