Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan Launch Visa-Free Border Trade Zone

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have agreed on legal arrangements allowing citizens of both countries visa-free access to the new Turkmen-Uzbek border trade zone. Details of the project were discussed in Tashkent during a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Nazar Agahanov.

The joint center is designed to serve as a platform for expanding mutual trade, promoting national products, and supporting entrepreneurship on both sides of the border, the Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade said Monday.

The facility covers six hectares — three hectares on each side. The area may be expanded under a separate international agreement if necessary.

The Turkmen-Uzbek border trade zone officially opened on November 17, 2025.
