The fire spread to parts of Oklahoma, leading to the evacuation of residents. As a result of fires in Oklahoma, about 13 000 hectares of forest and several homes burned.

On February 28, a state of emergency was declared in Texas. The number of counties under a state of emergency may increase due to hot, dry and windy weather forecast.

The fires also affected the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly plant, which was forced to suspend operations. The company's employees were evacuated.
