World Bank Ready to Support Turkmen Water, Transport Projects

The World Bank has reaffirmed its readiness to support Turkmenistan’s priority projects in the water resources and transport sectors, the bank’s Europe and Central Asia regional office reported on its X page following a meeting in Tashkent between Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani and Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan Merdanguly Palivanov.

The sides discussed the implementation of the Country Partnership Framework, which outlines the main areas of cooperation between the World Bank and Turkmenistan. The bank expressed its readiness to support key national priorities, including projects related to water resources and transport infrastructure.

The meeting took place during a visit by a World Bank delegation led by Bassani to Uzbekistan to participate in a meeting of the bank’s Swiss Constituency of member countries.

In recent months, the World Bank has expanded its support for projects in Central Asia. In June, the organization’s Board of Executive Directors approved financing for a project aimed at restoring the ecosystem of the North Aral Sea and in May it announced the launch of a $1 billion regional program to develop the regional electricity market.
