During a recently held session of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Minister it turned out that “Belarus specialists which are general contractors in this construction project, did not fully fulfill their contractual obligations”, Belarus-based news agency tut.by reports.The shortcomings were identified during the inspection carried out to check the performance of the facility with regard to compliance with health and safety requirements, “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.
As a result President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov charged Kerim Durdymyradov, Prime Minister overseeing, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Chairperson of the State Commission to carry out the inspection of Garlyk ore mining facility.
Let us recall that Garlyk mining and refining facility worth $1,1 billion which was built by Belarus construction company was commissioned on 31 March 2017.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
A month and a half after the plant commissioning it turned out that the facility was operating only at 7% of the projected capacity.
After that official Turkmen media outlets made no mention of Garlyk mining and refining facility.
Now Turkmenistan is holding a tender to build the second potassium plant.Initially it was planned that Belarus-based company will carry out the construction works.
However, the CEO of “Belaruskaliy” Ivan Golovatiy was quoted as saying that the company not submitted a tender application as they were discontent with the conditions proposed by the authorities of Turkmenistan”.
