Ankara Expresses Readiness to Help Bring Turkmen Gas to Europe

Ankara is ready to do its part to bring Turkmenistan's natural gas through Turkish soil to Europe, Turkish Anadolu Agency cites Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu said during a joint news conference with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov on Tuesday in Ankara.

Turkey’s top diplomat also welcomed the recent agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on joint development of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea.

Chavushoglu added that the bilateral trade volume increased despite the pandemic and that the two countries will continue to revive inter-governmental economic commissions as well as business councils and forums.

For his part, Meredov said that they held a fruitful meeting and discussed strengthening bilateral relations.

The two countries have high-level relations on trade and economy, Meredov noted, adding that the trade volume between Turkey and Turkmenistan amounted to $2 billion in 2020, which is "not bad, considering the pandemic conditions."

Indicating that the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan upon the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s invitation, Chavushoglu said that Turkey within this scope aims to hold the next Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan summit in Turkmenistan.

Following the meeting, the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Turkey signed the Cooperation Program for 2021-2022.

During his visit to Turkey, Turkmen Foreign Minister Meredov was also received by the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkmenistan’s top diplomat also participated in the Fifth Trilateral Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in Ankara.
