Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Transports Over 11,000 TEU Containers

Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway transported 11,084 TEU containers in January-June this year, ADY Container, the subsidiary of the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, reported on Monday.

The company notes that this figure is close to the total number of containers transported through this route in 2020, which is 11,748 TEU.

The containerized goods mainly consisted of non-ferrous metallurgy and chemical products, equipment, grain products, textiles, animal feed and construction materials.

The largest amount of containers on this railway, which is 3,206 TEU, was transported in the Kazakhstan-Turkey direction, while 552 TEU was transported in the opposite direction in the first half of this year.

During the six-month period, 2,915 TEU containers were sent from China to Turkey via the BTK railway. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan transported to Turkey via the BTK line 912 TEU containers and 747 TEU containers, respectively.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was put into operation in October, 2017 and has handled 33,267 TEU containers ever since.
