Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics ended

The closing ceremony of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games took place in the capital of China. At the end of the ceremony at the Beijing “Bird's Nest” Stadium, the Olympic flame was extinguished. The next Winter Olympics will take place in 2026 in Italy.

At the Games, which were held from February 4 to 20, 109 sets of medals were played. The leader in the unofficial medal count of the Beijing Olympics was the Norwegian team, which won 37 medals: 16 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze medals. The second were the German athletes.

The hosts of the Olympics - the Chinese team - took third place. They have 15 awards: nine gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

There were 91 NOCs represented at the Beijing Olympics. Two countries took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time: Haiti and Saudi Arabia. After the break, the national teams of American Samoa, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and the Virgin Islands again performed.

The capital of China was the first in history to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.The main tournament of the four years was held under severe anti-coronavirus restrictions.

To prevent the spread of infection, a system of the so-called "bubble" was built.The Olympic village and sports facilities remained a closed area, tests were carried out daily inside, and the sick were isolated.
