Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that Dashoguz schools are experiencing an acute shortage of qualified teaching staff, especially in classes with Russian as the language of instruction.
Parents of schoolchildren who study in Russian-speaking classes at Dashoguz school №3 have submitted a complaint to the municipal board of education.They are dissatisfied with the fact that many subjects, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and History are taught in Turkmen.
After repeatedly contacting the school principal, the parents decided to approach a high-ranking authority because he failed to take notice.
All schools which have classes with Russian as the language of instruction have been inspected by a commission. It was headed by the deputy head of the velayat’s education board who speaks almost no Russian.
Teachers were asked to tell about the subject they teach in Russian.More experienced educators have quite a good working knowledge of Russian whereas younger teachers do not speak the language, except a few most popular phrases.
Those who did a correspondence course in Russian universities in Penza, Cheboksary and Lipetsk also have poor English language proficiency.
There are few qualified educators even among Turkmen-speaking teachers, let alone those who can teach in Russian, which has become a foreign language.It is most likely that the inspections will not bring about any results and the situation will not improve.
