Inhabitants of the houses to be demolished in Turkmenistan fear to be left without accommodation

Some 75 privately-owned houses located in the southern district of Ashgabat, popularly referred to as “Shanghai” are scheduled to be demolished. The inhabitants of the houses have already received instructions from the housing recording and distribution department of the Ashgabat khyakimlik’s office, according to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.

The residents were informed that they are entitled to compensation if they manage to provide all the required documents for their property.

The residents of the district are concerned about the decision of the municipal authorities. They are aware that those, whose houses had been previously knocked down, have been waiting for alternative accommodation from the authorities for years. All this time they have been staying with relatives or renting out accommodation.

For instance, the inhabitants of the houses located in Nogina street, which were demolished a year ago, have not yet been provided with alternative accommodation in the residential district Parakhat-7.

The majority of the houses located in “Shanghai” district were demolished in the summer of 2017.
