Tbilisi marked World Turkic Language Day with an event at the Yunus Emre Institute, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia reported. The gathering was attended by heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan, along with university professors and lecturers.
Participants highlighted UNESCO’s designation of Dec. 15 as World Turkic Language Day as a step toward preserving intangible cultural heritage and supporting global linguistic diversity.
Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Dovletmyrat Seyitmammedov, said Turkic languages serve not only as a means of communication but also as living bridges between generations, preserving history, philosophy, and poetry. He added that the observance will promote academic research, global dialogue, cultural cooperation, and closer ties between civilizations.
The Turkic language family comprises about 30 languages, including Turkmen, Turkish, Kazakh, Uzbek, and Azerbaijani, with more than 200 million speakers worldwide.
